Braids
are back in style for women, and there are so many different things you can do
with a braid or two (or full head in some cases). Starlets all over Hollywood
have been seen sporting hundreds of braided looks, and one these assorted looks
include numerous variations of crown braids. When people think of a crown braid
the movie “Heidi” (the 1993 Disney version) comes to mind, and the crown braid
has been a Swiss specialty hairstyle for centuries. However, the origin of crown
braids goes as far back as the ancient Greek era, and in some cases further.
The crown braid can be also found in Ukrainian, Russian, and other European
cultures, which there are two traditional ways to do the crown braid (one full
braid around the head or two braided pigtails crossed over the front of the
head).
Today,
the braid styles for the crown braid are numerous, and people are always
inventing news way to wear a braid so that it looks elegant and classy instead
of cute and girly. This is because many times braids are only seen worn by
young girls, so for the longest time from the 1900s on, women did not wear
braids in their hair because it was considered childish. However, braids have
made a comeback, and, for the last couple of years, the famous starlets of
Hollywood have been seen with braids in their hair (whether full braids or half
ones). Some crown braiding styles include a small braid in the front (whether
one side, both sides, or a full braid from the top of the ear to the other),
and this look is perfect for any classy up-do. Another example of a crown braid
is where the hair is parted in the middle and both sides are braided, with the
braid going all the way down the strands, and they are connected in the back
(similar to a half-up, but with braids).
To
get the simple side crown braid, that is usually seen adding something new to a
plain classic up-do, you need to part your hair (vertically) on the side you
will not be braiding then part your hair horizontally on the side you will be braiding
(about 2 inches from the hairline). This part will start at the first part you
made and run all the way down to the nape of your neck, and when you have
finished sectioning the hair off like this secure the rest of you hair so the
two do not mix. Divide your hair into three sections and do a French braid all
the way down, and then you are ready to fix the rest of your hair (along with
the braid) into a classy up-do.
