Half Up and Half Down: Half Up Hairstyles

A recent hairstyle that has become very popular over the last couple of years is called the “half up and half down,” or it can be called a “half up” and even a “half ponytail” (even though not all half ups are ponytails). These half ups can be worn for any occasion, an elegant part or to work out, and this makes them as versatile as hairstyles such as the ponytail and braids. It is interesting to see how women are starting to wear the hairstyles we once wore as young girls (braids, ponytails, and half ups), but the reason could simply be because women have gone back to the simple things in life. The easier, and quicker, you can style your hair in the morning to go to work – the better.

There are numerous styles you can do as a half up hairstyle, and some of the simple ones that will never go out of style are the half ponytail and half braid. The half up can be both formal and informal, and you can to a simple half up ponytail for your trip to the gym as you wear a half up chignon to a special event. The history of the half up is unclear, but, like the ponytail, for centuries and centuries the half up was considered an informal look. A woman may have worn a braided ponytail (or half up) in the house, but she would not have been caught out in public with it (it was improper). Today, every woman has worn a half up hairstyle at least once in her life, and because it is a simple and quick style it is popular and will always be in style.

There are many ways to wear a half up, but the easiest way to wear one is to separate your hair in two sections (the top on being shorter) and then tie the top section with a hair band. For a more formal look, you can put a bun, chignon, braided bun, or use decorative pins and clips in the top section of hair you have separated from the rest. Half ups fit in all lengths of hair, and if you have shorter hair you may want to do a double ponytail hairstyle with the top part of your hair (leaving the rest down). Lastly, you can do a half up by taking a small section of hair on one side (or both sides if you want) of you head and put bobby pins in it to secure it (this does not have to be even).
